In just under one month, more than 600 passionate neighbors and friends will gather at the Grand Traverse Commons to celebrate another year of working to make our northern Michigan community stronger, healthier and more resilient. Among those in the crowd at our annual Harvest at the Commons celebration are community leaders and business owners, environmentalists and activists, artists and farmers — your friends, your neighbors, your community. Join us at Harvest at the Commons on Saturday, Oct. 7 from 5-10pm. Tickets are going quickly and will sell out soon. Get yours here.
After you enjoy a delicious, certified local meal, the Afro-Caribbean Salsa band Grupo Ayé will heat up the dance floor and sweep you off your feet with their irresistibly danceable rhythms. Leading the Grand Rapids-based group is Robert Mulligan, who’s got deep northern Michigan roots. He's an alum of the Leelanau School in Glen Arbor, Interlochen Arts Academy, and the WNMC community radio station at Northwestern Michigan College.
In preparation for Harvest and Grupo Ayé, we’ve partnered with local dance teacher Mykl Werth and Right Brain Brewery to offer four Salsa Dance lessons beginning Sept. 11 and running every Monday night until Oct. 2. Each week, from 6-8 p.m., Werth will teach participants the basic steps of salsa dancing. By the end of the lesson, you’ll have the basics down, with moves that are sure to impress during Harvest at the Commons!
Right Brain Brewery is located at 225 E Sixteenth St in Traverse City.
Can't make it to Harvest? Come learn to salsa anyway. These dance lessons are open to the public. No prior experience or partner required. If you're interested in Smart Commuting, groups will meet at 5:15 p.m. at the Sara Hardy Farmer's Market parking lot and bike from downtown Traverse City to Right Brain.
There is a $5 suggested donation for each class. Please RSVP here:
