Living with her family in Empire, Michigan, in the heart of the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, Cile is surrounded by vivid reminders of the mission her work supports as Groundwork’s development assistant. Empire is a small town with tight community connections and is embraced by forested hills and rimmed with the Lake Michigan shore—resources that are beautiful and that provide economic resilience for locals.

“In our family’s daily life, we see the value of Groundwork's efforts every day. Our kids eat school lunches that include foods from local farmers, we swim in beautiful, clean Lake Michigan, we've utilized BATA buses to get into town …”

As Development Assistant, Cile’s job is all about attention to details, like entering donations, sending thank-you notes, helping with bulk mailings and pitching in at events, like helping track the multitude of details needed to pull off the annual Harvest Dinner and the Michigan Clean Energy Conference & Expo.

Prior to working with Groundwork, Cile and her husband joined the organization because the couple’s values so aligned with the Groundwork mission. They even donated 1 percent of the sales of their small business to Groundwork.
