Meet Jamie Simmons
Meet Jamie Simmons
Engagement director, Michigan climate action network
When she has a bit of free time, what does Jamie Simmons like to do? “I like to organize events around social justice and facilitate group dialogues around societal topics and issues. I also like to read and spend time with people I hold dear.”
With interests and values like that, who better to be the Engagement Director for Groundwork’s close partner, Michigan Climate Action Network as it pushes for a rapid and just transition to a clean energy economy? As engagement director, Jamie is the point person for the network’s member organization and businesses, and she also assists MiCAN Director Kate Madigan in strategically engaging with members and creating opportunities for engagement. “My position also allows me to join, support, and uplift the work of environmental justice coalitions in southeast Michigan and beyond,” Jamie says.
That connection between personal and professional interests is as direct as can be for Jamie. “My pursuit to pull more people into the conversations around social justice issues pulled me into the position I am in,” she says. (And with an undergrad degree from Michigan State and a master’s degree from University of Michigan, she’s especially well equipped to build bridges in the Mitten!)
Looking forward, Jamie is excited about the opportunities to continuously learn about environmental and climate justice, food justice, and the many other sectors that MiCAN and Groundwork engage in.
