Meet Miriam Owsley

Manager of Events and Outreach

miriam@groundworkcenter.org | (231) 941-6584

Recently voted as the No. 1 Up-and-Coming Special Events Planner in Michigan by readers of Michigan Meetings and Events magazine, Miriam says she is a planner by nature. “I find true joy in creating great experiences for friends, family, and guests,” she says.

Miriam also has passion for a healthy environment and strong community, developed during a childhood in Leelanau County. That combination of organizational skills and environmental devotion makes Miriam ideal for keeping the details arranged and the progress moving on Groundwork’s two main annual events: autumn’s Harvest Dinner and spring’s Michigan Clean Energy Conference & Expo. She coordinates marketing and design projects, vendors, volunteers, attendee registrations, fundraising strategy, and day-of execution. “What I like most about event planning is that all of the details and little pieces that make every day different and engaging all come together to make the big picture work,” she says.

Beyond event planning, Miriam is part of Groundwork's development team, and works with corporate sponsors who support our events, reports, and projects. She also coordinates Groundwork’s group of dedicated volunteers.

In her spare time ...

Miriam downhill skis (currently rides Shaggy’s Copper Country Skis’ Belles— loves them), road bikes, mountain bikes and runs (preferably with a pooch). Indoors it’s jewelry-beading and cooking.

Favorite spot in northern Michigan

Miriam enjoys a peaceful float down the Crystal River, watching dragonflies and identifying flowers along the way.

Why the prop?

"Riding makes me feel powerful and free. Time on my bike is time for me to enjoy by myself, or anyone who can keep up with me."
